Safe Room Doors

Armoured Safe Room Doors

A steel-cored door and frame that looks like any other door in the house, until somebody tries to get through it.

An armoured safe room door is a steel-cored door and frame fitted to an existing opening, usually a bedroom, so that one room in the house can be locked and held against forced entry. The DEFENDoor® Armoured Door is thicker and heavier than a standard door, fixes to the wall at eight points, and locks into its frame on all four sides, while a decorative wooden panel keeps it looking like any other door in the house.

What stops a door is rarely the door on its own. It is only ever as good as what it is anchored to, which is why our solution comes with a 1.6mm and 2mm mild steel frame and fixes to the wall at eight points. Heavy-duty adjustable hinges resist the door being levered out, and 16mm 304 stainless steel static pins lock into the frame side, so even if the hinges themselves are attacked, the door still cannot be taken out of the opening.

The lock is an armoured door lock manufactured in Italy, throwing 18mm diameter hard chrome pins. Above and below it, 16mm 304 stainless steel deviator pins lock into the top and bottom of the frame. A lock cylinder protection plate covers the cylinder, the one part of the door an intruder could quietly work on, so it cannot be manipulated or drilled.

None of that is visible. A decorative wooden panel covers the steel core in one of five styles, so the door looks like an ordinary internal door rather than announcing that there is something behind it worth protecting.

What makes it hold

  • Solid construction

The door is thick and sturdy, with a steel core inside it, so it resists physical attacks like kicking or battering. It is noticeably heavier than a standard door because of its construction.

  • Reinforced frame

A 1.6mm and 2mm mild steel frame with heavy-duty adjustable hinges, fixed to the wall at eight points, so the door cannot be forced out of its frame or lifted off its hinges.

  • Armoured lock, made in Italy

An armoured door lock manufactured in Italy, throwing 18mm diameter hard chrome pins. This is the mechanism the whole door depends on, built as an armoured lock rather than a domestic one fitted into a stronger door.

  • Secured on all four sides

16mm 304 stainless steel deviator pins lock into the top and bottom of the frame, and 16mm static pins lock into the frame side, so the door is held on every edge instead of only at the handle.

  • Lock cylinder protection

A protection plate covers the cylinder, the one part of the door intruders often try to damage. Ours cannot be manipulated or drilled.

  • Payment terms available

You can pay over up to 24 months through FeverTree, as on any DEFENDoor® order.

Decorative panel styles

The steel core is covered by a decorative wooden panel, in a choice of five styles, so the door reads as an ordinary internal door.

Frequently asked questions

What is an armoured safe room door?
An armoured safe room door is a steel-cored door and frame fitted to an existing opening, usually a bedroom, so that one room in the house can be locked and held against forced entry. It is thicker and heavier than a standard door, is fixed to the wall at eight points, and locks into its frame on all four sides.
What makes it different from a standard security door?
An armoured door differs in what is inside it, what it is anchored to, and how many places it locks. It has a steel core rather than a timber or hollow one, comes with its own 1.6mm and 2mm mild steel frame fixed at eight wall mounting points, and locks on all four sides through an armoured Italian lock, deviator pins top and bottom, and static pins into the frame side.
Can an armoured door be fitted to an opening I already have?
Yes. DEFENDoor® specialises in retrofitting existing openings, with the framing and sealing made good as part of the installation. We measure the opening on site at the free assessment.
What stops the door being removed if the hinges are attacked?
16mm diameter 304 stainless steel static pins lock into the frame side and hold the door in the opening independently of the hinges. Cutting or knocking out the hinges does not release it, and the hinges themselves are heavy-duty and adjustable.
Can the lock be drilled or manipulated?
The door comes with a lock cylinder protection plate fitted over the cylinder, specifically to resist manipulation and drilling. The lock behind it is an armoured door lock manufactured in Italy, throwing 18mm diameter hard chrome pins.
What maintenance does an armoured door need?
An armoured door wants an inspection once a year: lubricate the bolts, check the lock, and check that the frame is still in alignment. There is more moving hardware in an armoured door than in an ordinary one, and keeping it aligned is what keeps all of it engaging properly.
How long is the guarantee on an armoured door?
The armoured door carries a two-year guarantee.
Can I pay an armoured door off over time?
Yes. You can pay an armoured door off over a term of up to 24 months through our finance partner, FeverTree.
