A swing security gate is a hinged steel gate on a fixed frame that opens like a second door, inward or outward. DEFENDoor® makes two models, each custom-made to the entrance it protects, from a pedestrian doorway to a uniquely sized opening, in single or double leaf.
Both are built on a single 19mm steel vertical bar, which is the part that does the security work. Paired bars give a crowbar a join to lever against, and a single bar takes it away. The steel is galvanised where needed and rust-protected before coating, and no nylon or plastic goes anywhere into the gate.
What separates the two models is the frame pattern. The Criss-Cross runs two sets of crossed flights across a standard-height door, while the Vertical or Horizontal Bar keeps a cleaner look and can run its bars either way. Both carry the same five-year guarantee, so you are choosing on how you want the entrance to look.

19mm single vertical bars
One continuous bar per upright, with no seam for a crowbar to separate. On gates built with paired bars, intruders often try to prise a gate open at the join. A single bar takes that option away.

Tamper-proof hinges
A hinged gate is only as strong as its hinges. Ours are tamper-proof, so an intruder cannot lift the gate off the frame or knock the pins out to get past it.

Full-length lock protection
The Criss-Cross carries a full-length 3mm lock protection plate, and the Vertical or Horizontal Bar carries full-length lock protection too. On both, the lock body sits behind steel and cannot be reached from outside.

Are swing security gates better than sliding gates?
Swing gates and sliding gates each suit different openings. A swing security gate is usually simpler and more affordable to install on smaller entrances, wherever there is room for it to open inward or outward. Where that room is not available, a sliding or retractable trellis gate is the better answer.
Can I install a swing gate myself?
DEFENDoor® does not offer a DIY option, and we install every swing gate ourselves. A gate only swings smoothly and resists forced entry when it is aligned correctly and anchored securely, with tamper-proof fittings throughout, and all of that depends on the installation.
Do swing security gates come in custom sizes?
Yes. Every swing gate is custom-made to the entrance, from a small pedestrian gate to a wider opening, in a range of widths and heights and in single or double leaf.
How do I maintain a swing security gate?
A swing security gate needs very little upkeep. Check the hinges and locks now and then to keep them running smoothly, keep them lubricated, wipe the gate down to clear dirt and dust, and touch up any scratches in the powder coating before rust can start.
